The real question we should be asking about Māori and prisons

Instead of asking why so many Māori people are in prison, maybe we should be asking why we’ve created a prison system that’s obsessed with putting Māori people in it.
If you don’t want to go to prison just don’t do any crimes, right? Unfortunately, it’s a little bit more complicated than that. When we have internal biases deeply ingrained at every level of the justice system, they’re going to have an influence on who ends up behind bars. Janaye Henry explains.
